Winter Sports Preview: Seymour High School Bowling
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Coaches: Rick Schuley, Robin Cummings, Joe Wilson

Returning bowlers: Ethan Malone, Robbie Knoll, Cody Burke and Tyler Brown for the boys; Samantha Shell, Amanda Creech, Stephanie Hensen and Kaylie Brown for the girls
2009 outlook
The boys team lost the No. 1 and 3 bowlers to graduation, but coach Rick Schuley feels he has four strong bowlers and he’s looking for a fifth person to fill the final spot.
“We picked up a freshman, Zack Brown, who right now is doing really well,” Schuley said. “We have four strong, but we’re really struggling to get a fifth bowler to step up and post us a consistently good score. We’ve got a couple kids that are showing some promise.”
For the girls, coach Robin Cummings has four returning bowlers and four girls new to the team.
“Kaylie Brown, I see her as being our most improved bowler, and she could be even our highest bowler in some of our games,” Cummings said. “She’s bowled fabulously in practice, so I’m really excited to see what she’ll do in competition because we needed another strong bowler, and she has risen to the top to be that extra-strong bowler.”
Stephanie Hensen and Amanda Creech were solid bowlers last year, and Cummings expects that to stay the same this year.
Last fall was Samantha Shell’s first time doing organized bowling, and Cummings said Shell “improved quickly and she’s developed into quite a bowler, and she is a physically strong girl.”
Autumn Boling is new to the team, but Cummings expects her to be a starter. Cummings also expects the three other new bowlers to be good substitutes as the season progresses.
Both coaches are aiming for a conference and sectional championship, or at least having individuals advance. The Southeastern Indiana Conference tournament will be at Starlite Bowl in Seymour, while the sectional will be at Columbus.
Bloomington North, Bloomington South, Columbus East and Trinity Lutheran are new to the SIC. These teams, along with Seymour, Columbus North, Madison and South Ripley will compete against each other in matches. During the regular season, the teams will play two opponents at each match.
With more teams in the conference this year, more teams and individuals will advance from sectional.
