Trinity loses soccer match; Lady Owls defeat Pirates

For the first time this season, the Trinity Lutheran soccer team had trouble scoring a goal and it cost them their first loss of the year. Oldenburg Academy blanked Trinity 3-0 on the Cougars' field.

The Cougars scored five goals last week against Scottsburg, but Coach Daniel Sievert said his team came out flat against Oldenburg. The Cougars are 3-1-2 on the year.

"We just didn't have many opportunities to score today," Sievert said. "We just couldn't get things going. We really didn't get the ball up the field and we had seven shots on goal. We really had our hands full with an undefeated Oldenburg team."

"We expected a handful after playing them last year and we improved a bit from last year. We still think we could have represented Trinity a little better on our home field and giving them fewer chances than we should have."

The Twisters, 4-0-1 on the year, scored the first goal of the game with 7:21 left in the first half. The shot went just to the left of goalie Chad VanLiew. VanLiew had several saves in the first half and kept the score at 1-0 at the break. The Twisters tie came with Jennings County.

Oldenburg kept the Cougars are their toes with crisp, sharp passes and they made the Cougars stay a step behind the whole game.

"We couldn't get anything going in the first half," Sievert said. "We were flat and quiet, and were kind of standing around. We were fortunate to end the first half down 1-0 because it could have been a lot worse."
"In the second half we came together more and moved to the ball. When we pulled Chad from the goal and put him on the field it gave us some more opportunities. We wanted to leave the field knowing we played a lot better in the second half."

With a little over 22 minutes left in the game, the Twisters scored their second goal, then added their final goal of the game 13 minutes later.

The Cougars received two yellow cards in the second half.

"The yellow cards were a result of physical play. Our kids were trying to get each other inspired and it was nothing cheap. That's pretty normal for a soccer team and I encourage our kids to be good sports and be good witnesses for Jesus, and they did that today," Sievert said.

The Twisters had 27 shots on goal and had seven saves. The Cougars had seven shots and 19 saves.
The Cougars will play host to Jeffersonville  Thursday with junior varsity action to begin at 5:30 p.m.

Lady Owls win
The Seymour Lady Owls scored two goals in the second half to break open a close game for a 3-0 win over Greensburg at C.B. Hess Field.

Meredith Adams led the Owls with a goal and two assists. Kaitlin Grindlay and Heather Jones scored the other two Seymour goals.
Both teams had a lot of scorin

g opportunities with the Owls taking 34 shots and the Pirates 25 shots.
Seymour, 5-2, will be home to New Albany Thursday.
