Coach Jennifer Chastain said her Brownstown Central golf team learned a lot in playing a practice round Wednesday at Fox Cliff Golf Course at Martinsville.

"They did well and took good notes. They learned where they need to play the ball, what clubs to hit on what holes, especially those girls that hadn't been there before," Chastain said.

Jamie Wehmiller and Fayeann Hurley played in the regional as individuals last year. Other members of the regional team are Allyson Hackman, Taylor Morrow and Erin Bane. Hackman also played a round Sunday at Fox Cliff.

Hurley is a senior, Wehmiller is a junior, Morrow is a sophomore, and Hackman and Bane are freshmen.
"Allyson knows Fox Cliff from playing IGA-PGA events there, and Jamie and Fayeann know the course from playing there last year," Chastain said.

The tournament will start at 10 a.m. with the individuals starting at that time. The teams will begin at 10:36 with sectional champions going first.

The Braves will play with Northview, Plainfield  and Center Grove. Those teams, all third-place finishers in their sectionals, will begin teeing off at 12:06 p.m.

"Those schools are pretty decent," Chastain said. "Northview is close to us and the others are a little better.
"This is a good experience for them whether they move on or not. This is great for our school. Jamie and Allyson have the capability of making it out individually. It would be neat if they could do that."

This is Brownstown's first appearance in the regional, as a team, since 1980 when the Braves won a sectional.

The top three teams, and low three individuals not on one of those teams, will advance to the state next week at The Legends at Franklin.
