Tigers, Hornets lose road games

The Crothersville and Medora boys basketball teams dropped to 1-7 on the year after struggling in road games on Saturday.

Orleans 73, Crothersville 32

ORLEANS — Crothersville couldn’t break past 10 points in a quarter against Class A No. 6 Orleans.

The Bulldogs led 26-6 after one quarter of play and 40-16 at halftime in moving to 7-1 on the season. Orleans won 73-32.

“I felt like my kids just came out flat, and I feel like they did not come out with any intensity or effort,” Tigers coach Clint Waskom said. “We completely did not even attempt to execute the game plan we talked about, and (Orleans) set the tone early. We just didn’t come out ready to play.”

Jonathan Smith scored 12 first-quarter points for the Bulldogs, and he took game honors with 22 points.

For Crothersville, Zach Elliott was the top scorer with nine points.

The Tigers will compete in the Christian Academy Tournament, beginning with pool play action on Dec. 28 at Austin.

“There’s still a lot of season left,” Waskom said, “and they have to start learning from the mistakes that we make at both ends of the floor.”

Shoals 56, Medora 23

SHOALS — Medora struggled to connect in the first and fourth quarters in losing 56-23 at Shoals.

The Hornets only scored six points in the first quarter and two in the fourth, and they were held to single digits in every quarter.

“We gave them a 14-0 lead, and we came out flat in the first half,” Hornets coach Marty Young said. “Then we fought back from there and played well in the second and third quarter.”

Medora was within 12 at one point in the third quarter, but the Jug Rox outscored the Hornets 18-2 in the fourth.

“We’ve just got to be able to put a full game together and get five guys on the court that will compete at all times,” Young said.

The Hornets were led by Ethan Wheeler’s 10 points, and the Jug Rox had three players in double figures.

Medora’s next game is Jan. 5 at Edinburgh.
