From the first golf match back on July 31, to the state volleyball finals that ended Saturday night, it was an interesting, and for the most part enjoyable season for the county’s 22 varsity fall sports teams.

The Seymour and Brownstown Central golf teams got the fall schedules going for county teams when they participated in the Providence Invitational at Fuzzy Zoeller’s Covered Bridge Golf Course.

The Seymour girls placed second in the sectional with Jessica Collins taking medalist honors. Brownstown’s Jordyn Hackman, Jamie Wehmiller and Fayeann Hurley qualified for the regional. Neither the Seymour team, nor the Brownstown individuals qualified for state.

Trinity coach Becky Ward said she was glad to have a full team to compete in the sectional.

The Seymour boys cross country team improved steadily in the second half of the season to win the sectional and regional at Bedford, and placed second in the semi-state to qualify for state where it finished 19th.

Brownstown’s Kassie Kovert qualified for state for the third straight season, and BC’s Mark Crossman won the sectional and regional and also qualified for state where he finished 20th to earn all-state honors. The BC boys and girls advanced to the semi-state.

Trinity Lutheran’s Ryan Schneider became the first Trinity individual athlete in any sport to qualify for an IHSAA regional when he finished 12th in the sectional.

Trinity had a new cross country coach this fall, Jay Cherry.

The Seymour girls qualified for the semi-state.

Crothersville coach Carl Bowman said at the awards program he is hoping to have enough athletes (5) to field boys and girls teams next fall. This year he had one girl and three boys.

Trinity Lutheran fielded a varsity soccer team for the first time this fall, and the Cougars finished 10-5-3, and topped their season off by defeating Brown County in the Seymour Sectional. Daniel Sievert was in his first season as the Cougars’ coach.

The Seymour girls and boys finished below .500. The Lady Owls defeated Madison in the first round of the sectional, while the boys lost their first match in the sectional.

The Seymour and Brownstown Central boys tennis teams finished below .500, although Seymour’s Chase Emerson had an excellent season and went 15-3.

The Brownstown football team put together another outstanding season by going 9-3, but was unable to win either the conference or sectional. Seymour finished 4-6.

The Brownstown volleyball team had another outstanding season by qualifying for the state finals, and reached the championship match in Class 2A before falling to Muncie Burris. The Braves finished 32-6.

Along the way, the Braves won another Mid-Southern title, its 10th straight sectional and sixth straight regional.

Trinity also had a new coach, Sara Clark, and topped the 20-win mark for the fourth straight season, while Crothers-ville also had a winning record.

Seymour and Medora both finished below .500. Medora also had a new coach, Kristina Beesley.
