Seymour defeated Whiteland 25-12, 25-5, 25-19, Brownstown topped Bloomington North 25-2, 25-13, 25-18, and Crothersville won at Henryville 25-12, 26-24, 25-23 Thursday night in varsity volleyball matches.
West Washington spoiled Medora's home opener 25-20, 25-19, 25-8.

Owls top Warriors
Owls coach Angie Lucas said she was pleased to see her team get off to a good start. "The varsity played very well. It was a great team effort with everyone playing well. We had outstanding serving with 16 aces, and did a great job at the net hitting with 47 kills.

"Tonight was a great opening night for Seymour volleyball with all three teams getting a win."
Erin Murphy and Moriah Hendrix both had nine attack kills, and Kristin Turner served nine aces and was a perfect 24 for 24. Emily Krumme had 22 assists.

The Owls will travel to a tournament at Borden Saturday with the first match set to start at 8:30 a.m.

Braves whip Cougars
BROWNSTOWN - The Braves had an easy time winning their second match of the season.
"We are playing good volleyball for this time of the season," coach Jennifer Shade said. "We made some great runs. We are glad to be playing games so we can see what we need to work on."

Jordyn Pendleton had nine attack kills, and Whitney Tormoehlen had seven ace serves and was 30 for 30 at the line.

Tigers top Hornets
HENRYVILLE - Coach Zabrina Nicholson said her team had to overcome a questionable call and a player becoming ill to top the Hornets.

"The first game we pulled ahead and stayed ahead. The second game our serve reception went downhill and allowed Henryville to keep up.

"In the third game, we dominated early and a call by an official took us out of it mentally and they caught up, and we came back and won. Our libero got sick in the third game and we had to make a line up change, but the girls pulled together, our coverage was better, our serving picked up and we won."

The Tigers had 30 attack kills with Koleigh King having 10.
The Tigers are 2-0 in the SAC and overall.

Senators top Hornets
MEDORA - Coach Kristina Beesley said her team showed a lot of improvement over its first match.
"The varsity match was very competitive point-for-point. The girls played extremely better than their performance Tuesday.

"They had a great attitude and they never once got down on themselves."
Medora lost the junior varsity match Thursday night, but Beesley said three girls quit after the match, leaving nine girls on the squad, so Medora will play only a varsity schedule the rest of the season.
"I have nine girls that have the best attitudes that I've seen in the gymnasium this year," Beesley said.

Medora will play in the Eastern Greene tournament Saturday and will play Shakamak at 9 a.m., Eastern at 10:30 a.m. and Washington Catholic at noon.
