Seymour baseball team wins 2 from Greensburg

Seymour's Jesse Wilson said when he stepped into the batter's box in the seventh inning of the tie game with Greensburg Saturday, he just wanted to hit the ball to right field to drive in A.J. Beach with the winning run.
"I was looking for something I could drive to the right side because we had A.J. on second, and he's fast. I knew if I hit it through the right side he would score."
Wilson hit it to the right side, over the fence in right-center field, to send the Owls home with a 12-9 win.
The junior catcher said he wasn't sure it was going to clear the fence when he first hit it. "It was a curve ball, and I kind of hit it off my front foot. I knew it was deep, but I wasn't sure how the wind was going to take it, but it worked out pretty well."
The Owls received home runs from Skylar Prange, Noah Wahl and Chad Moore in the first game and won 13-3 in five innings.
Wilson said the sweep is just what the Owls needed going onto today's 6 p.m. Hoosier Hills Conference tournament home game against Floyd Central. "It feels great. We've only had one other double-header that we won (Clarksville). We've kind of had this problem with second games of doubleheaders. It felt really good to come out and win two against a ranked (No. 8 in 3A) team. This will boost our confidence at the plate."
The Owls lost to the Highlanders 9-3 Thursday night. "We need to come out and hit (against Floyd Central) the way we hit today," Wilson said. "The other day we weren't good offensively, and we had some errors defensively. I think if we come out strong the way we did today we won't have any problems."
Moore had the hot bat for the Owls in the nightcap with a walk and three straight doubles. He drove in four runs, while Wahl and Trevor Thompson both had two RBIs, and Wilson and Reagan Eakins both scored three runs.
Greensburg held a 2-1 lead entering the bottom of the fourth inning of the opener when the Owls sent 16 batters to the plate and collected seven hits, four walks, a hit batsman and the Pirates committed two errors.
Prange had the biggest game of his career with a three-run homer and a bases-clearing double for six RBIs in the fourth inning. The home runs by Wahl and Moore also came in the fourth.
The Owls finished with nine hits with Prange and Wahl both getting two. Wahl had three RBIs and Wilson had two. Cory Thomas scored three and Thompson and Prange two runs each.
For the day the Owls had four home runs and seven doubles among their 22 hits.
Coach Bob Bowman. "We were down in both games and came back. That one inning we had was one of the best innings I've ever seen us have. Three home runs and 12 runs in one inning. Good grief, who would ever have thought that. Some of those were really hit well.
"They had two or three guys that could really hit the ball, not just home runs but average, too." Catcher-designated hitter Mitch Adams hit three home runs on the day, giving him 13 for the season. One of his homers landed on the tennis courts, well over the right field fence. Outfielder-pitcher Alex Meyer homered in the second game. Adams was hitting .629 and Adams .488 going into last week. Both players may be drafted in the June baseball draft.
"I thought for the most part we did a good job of keeping people off base in front of them, so they didn't get a lot of RBIs all at one time," Bowman said. "I thought our pitchers did real well. (Jordan) Lorenzo was getting a little tired, and (Cameron) Phelps came in and did a good job. To win two from them is quite an accomplishment. We didn't see their ace (Meyer), but they didn't see ours either."
Thompson won the opener as he struck out seven and didn't walk any.
The Owls are 12-6. Greensburg had lost only two games, to Connersville and Columbus North. prior to Saturday.
