The Seymour tennis team had too much depth for Bedford North Lawrence and scored a 4-1 victory Monday afternoon on the Owls' courts.

Chase Emerson defeated Nate Head 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles before a light rain forced a short delay.
After the rain stopped, Mitch Hunnicutt won 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2 singles, and Jase Hunnicutt and Matt Moravec at No. 1 doubles, and Cody Scamacca and Luke Thomas won at No. 2 doubles, both won in straight sets.

"It's a very satisfying win," Owls coach Brad Emerson said. "We had some excellent production out of Mitch Hunnicutt at No. 2 singles, and I thought No. 1 and 2 doubles did an excellent job putting their opponents away in straight sets. They did a credible job there."

The Owls are 4-2 and will be home to New Albany today. Coach Emerson said. "I think they're down a little bit this year, but it's going to be a a tight match. It's probably going to come down to a doubles match or one of the singles matches. It's going to be a tough contest. I think Jennings lost to them 3-2 so that's what's giving me hope." The Owls topped the Panthers 4-1.

Last Friday's Seymour-Brownstown match, postponed by rain, has been re-scheduled for Sept. 19.

Braves lose
BROWNSTOWN - Brownstown Central's tennis team continues to make improvements, but came up short in its efforts to beat one of the Mid Southern Conference's upper tier teams.

"They have to be one of the darkhorses going into the sectional," Braves coach Ron Slaton said of Scottsburg, who beat the Braves 4-1 Monday.

The Braves' lone point came at No. 1 doubles where Elijah Bean and Colin Woods beat Ryan Petty and James Hutton in a rain-delayed three set match, 6-4, 6-7 (7-3), 7-5.

Slaton said overall he was happy with the play of his squad, which fell to 1-3 in conference play and 4-5 overall.

"We went three sets at three positions," Slaton said. "We're getting better."

The Braves No 2. doubles team of Spencer Roberts and Luke Warren fell in three matches to Matt Boswell and Brandon Petty 6-4, 6-7 (7-4), 1-6 and Brave freshman Trey DeHart lost in three sets 6-1, 2-6, 3-6.
The Braves return to action today with a conference match at Corydon.
