Brownstown golfers top Trinity; Seymour softball team loses in HHC

Zach Pranger shot a one-over par 37 to lead the Brownstown Central golf team to a 158-191 win over Trinity Lutheran in a golf match Monday afternoon at Shadowood Golf Course.

Joey Wilkerson shot 38 giving the Braves tow players in the 30s.

Ben Otte was low for Trinity with 45, and Greg Wehmiller shot 46.

Trinity will travel to Mitchell today, while the Braves will play West Washington and Salem May 13.

MADISON - Madison Shawe shot 161, Rising Sun 188 and Crothersville 220 at River Chase Golf Course in Madison.

Cameron Royalty and Jarrod Richey were low for Crothersville with rounds of 53.

Coach Danny Lee said, "The boys are struggling keeping the balls in the fairways. They need to hit a lot more balls."

The Tigers will play Borden today at Hoosier Hills Golf Course. "I'm looking forward to that match," Lee said. "Borden is a second-year program like we are."

Lady Owls fall
NEW ALBANY - New Albany scored an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth inning to edge Seymour 2-1 in the opening round of the Hoosier Hills Conference tournament.

New Albany scored one run in the bottom of the first and led until the top of the sixth when Chelsea Miller scored the tying run.

Coach Dennis Sutton said. "In the top of the sixth we had the bases loaded with one out and couldn't get the timely hit again.

"In the bottom of the sixth, we committed an error on a routine play that cost us the game.
"The last time we played, they beat us 6-1, and we gave up 10 hits. So the girls are keeping their heads up and were still battling every inning.

"Sydney (Schneider) pitched a very good game and kept us in it. We hope to continue our improvement into Wednesday's game."

Schneider had a double and two walks to lead the offense.
Seymour, 1-11, will play at Columbus East Wednesday. East lost to Jeffersonville 2-1.
