Crothersville defeated Trinity Lutheran 26-24, 25-16, 25-15 in varsity volleyball action Tuesday night on the Tigers floor.

Tigers top Cougars
CROTHERSVILLE - Crothersville received a big physchological lift by winning the first game, then had an easier time winning the last two over their Jackson County and sectional rivals.
The first game was close throughout with neither team holding more than a two-point lead until the Tigers moved ahead 24-21. After the Cougars drew even at 24-24, the Tigers scored two quick points, including the game point on a dink from Coleigh King.
This was Crothersville's first match with Jessica Wischmeier as head coach. "I felt our girls were just a little nervous with this being our first home game. They've worked hard and played through a lot of down times.
"Trinity knows Amber (Lucas) is going to hit the ball hard, she always does. But when Amber throws a tip in there, that was definitely an option for her."
"I thought we had good hitting and net play."
The Tigers had 40 kills with Lucas leading with 14. She also had nine blocks.
Crothersville is 10-4.
Trinity coach Sarah Clark said she felt like her team had a letdown after putting up a strong performance Monday against Bedford North Lawrence. "They started with momentum. I don't think my girls came in with a lot of desire and fight in their hearts. After playing so hard against Bedford, I think they came into this one thinking it was going to be an easier match.
"Crothersville has a good team this year. They play the floor really well, which our girls didn't. We weren't playing defense well at all. We didn't even play serve receive well.
"They outplayed us at the net. We had a few kills, but not as many as we should have."
The Tigers held a 6-5 lead in the second game when Courtney Killey served Crothersville into a 13-5 lead and the closest the Cougars could get after that was 16-13.
Crothersville held a 10-6 lead in the third game before using kills by Brooke Prather and Lucas, an ace by King and a dink by Killey to take a 14-6 lead.
Kendall Lambring had a pair of kills, and Alexis White had three kills late for the Cougars but it was too little, too late.
Lambring had 13 kills and White finished with 11. White had 11 blocks.
The Cougars will be home to Hauser Thursday and will play host to the Cougar Invitational Saturday. "Hopefully they will have learned from their mistakes tonight," Clark said.
Trinity is 9-8.
Owls top Dragons
SELLERSBURG - Seymour won 25-15, 25-20, 25-14 at Silver Creek to bring its record to 12-7.
"Our varsity and JV teams played very well," coach Angie Lucas said. "We played with intensity and showed improvement. I am very pleased to see the varsity team improving in areas such as serve reception and blocking. We passed very well tonight against some very good servers. It was a neat atmosphere with great fan support on both sides.
