COLUMBUS — The eight-member Seymour High School girls bowling team won sectional on Saturday at Columbus Bowling Center.

Seymour had team game scores of 642 and 650 and five Baker-style game scores of 121, 114, 141, 122 and 138.

Brittany Erwin’s 173 was a high game in individual play, and she also scored a 428 for a high series in individual play for the Seymour girls.

Erwin finished third as an individual in sectional play, Amanda Creech was fourth with a 414 series and Stephanie Hensen was sixth with a 407 series.

The other members of the girls team are Hannah Baker, Autumn Boling, Kaylie Brown, Brenna Sewell and Samantha Shell.

The Lady Owls advance to Saturday’s regional at Liberty Bowl in Muncie.

For the Seymour boys, freshman Logan Moore was the only individual to advance to regional, and he also will travel to Muncie on Saturday.

Moore was the only qualifier from Seymour with a 500 series. He was the eighth individual to move on, and only the top eight individuals advanced.

As a team, the Owls were third, just 24 pins away from a trip to the regional.

Members of the boys team bowling along with Moore were Tyler Brown, Zack Brown, Robbie Knoll, Chris Kelly and Ethan Malone.

For Trinity Lutheran, freshman Chaz Mathis bowled well during the qualifying matches, coach Don Brown said, and he placed third overall. In the stepladder-format rolloff, Mathis first faced the bowler who qualified fourth and won by 61 pins with a score of 223.

Mathis then shot 235 to defeat another senior in the semifinal match. In the final match, Mathis and a bowler from South Ripley saw their scores drop significantly, Brown said, and Mathis lost 153-152 to finish second.

Mathis won sectional awards for high game and high average and he was named to the boys all-conference team.

Mathis’ sister, Ashley, was named to the girls all-conference team, and Matthew Rollins received the most improved award for junior varsity.

The bowling regional begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
