Braves run to easy wins; O’s top Owls

The Brownstown Central track teams opened their season Tuesday by running past Austin at Blevins Stadium, while Seymour fell to Columbus East at Bulleit Stadium.

The Brownstown girls won 116-10, and the BC boys won 102-29.

The Columbus East boys pulled out a 68-64 win, while the East girls won 90-42.

Nolan Fife led the Seymour boys by winning the 1,600 and 3,200 runs.

Coach Randy Fife said, "This is the closest we've came to East for a while. I was pretty happy with what we did. The highlights were probably the distance races. We went 1-2 in the mile, and we swept the two-mile.

"We knew we would do well in the throws. In the discus we went 1-2 and in the shot we got two places.

"And we won two (1,600, 3,200) relays which is nice."

Cassie Davidson and Kortney Unger were double winners for the girls. Davidson won the 100 and long jump, and Unger won the shot and pole vault.

Coach Spencer Sunbury said, "Cassie had a really strong 100, and she came back and  won the long jump. This is the first year for her long-jumping and that was a great jump for her. Kortney had a decent throw in the shot put. She scratched on her best throw, which was quite a bit more. She is really coming on in the shot.

"Trisha Moravec had a good race in the 800. We had some younger kids, freshmen and sophomores that did a good job. This is a year where we're going to find a lot of stuff out. Courtney Yeager had a good showing in the mile. We have a lot of little things we need to work on."

The Brownstown girls won everything except the high jump.

Ashley Allen won the 100, 200 and long jump and ran on the winning 400 relay. Sarah Baker won the shot put and discus, Lindsey Rumph won the 100 hurdles and pole vault, and Kassie Kovert won the 800 and 1,600.

David Baker, Mark Crossman, Kwin Cutter and Chris Branaman won two events each.

Baker won the shot and discus, Crossman won the 800 and 1,600, Cutter won the 200 and 400 and Branaman won both hurdles.
Coach Barry Cutter said, "Kwin won the 400 and 200 with nice times. Blaze Hurley ran 11.2 in the 100 and went 13 feet in the pole vault. Crossman won the 800 and 1,600 with good times for it being very cold."
