Column: Flood events beyond belief, prove resilience of Jackson County residents



The sun broke big and bright June 7, 2008, amid clear, blue skies that covered Jackson County.

Dark clouds loomed to the north over Bartholomew County, though, and they grew taller, darker and more ominous as the county line approached, heading north on U.S. 31.

An oil change and some other maintenance awaited the van at a Columbus garage. An appointment was made; otherwise I might have turned around in Reddington and headed back home for breakfast with the family.

So I chugged on.
