Freshman gymnast bright spot for Owls

COLUMBUS

Seymour senior Lauren Prewitt was doing some last-minute adjustments before she climbed on the balance beam during her team’s 103.95-93.75 loss to host Columbus East on Friday.

It seems her dad, and his camera, were in the line of vision.

Owls coach Angie Mellencamp knew that the season-opener would have its share of distractions for a program that suffered heavy losses from last season’s exceptional team, including Olivia Coomer.

So she wasn’t surprised that her gymnasts suffered through a few aches and pains along the way.
