GREENWOOD — A couple of insurance runs in the top of the sixth inning of Monday’s District 12 championship game gave the Seymour 12-year-old Little League all-star team a 5-0 lead over Bedford.
But then came some late-game drama. The game wasn’t over quite yet.
Tiller Cummings gave up a single in between a pair of strikeouts. Bedford then strung together two singles before a bases-loaded double to cut its deficit to 5-2. A runner scored on a passed ball before Cummings gave up a full-count walk.
A hit up the middle of the field scored a runner to pull Bedford within one. Then, Cummings, his teammates and coaches and all of the Seymour fans breathed a sigh of relief when the next batter popped out to Jake VonDielingen at first base, leaving two men on base and giving Seymour a 5-4 win and the District 12 title.
