A traffic stop near Seymour led to the discovery of about 17 pounds of marijuana and the arrest of a Texas woman, police report.

Loniquel Trachelle Hoskins, 22, of Houston, was booked into Jackson County Jail at 5:03 p.m. Sunday on a Class C felony charge of dealing in marijuana more than 10 pounds and a Class D felony charge of possession of marijuana more than 10 pounds, according to a news release from Master Trooper Stephen Wheeles.

Wheeles said the incident that led to Hoskins’ arrest began when he stopped a 2007 Chrysler 300 near the 55-mile marker of southbound Interstate 65 north of Seymour.

That stop occurred about 2 p.m. Sunday.

Wheeles said he noticed what he described as a strong odor of marijuana and decided to search the vehicle after his dog, Kane, signaled the presence of drugs.
