Seymour 285-pound wrestler Adam Wolka had experienced the disappointment before.
He was standing on the podium after the Jennings County Sectional meet on Saturday, but below his feet was the No. 2.
Wolka dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to Columbus East’s Rob McKee, who leads in their personal series 3-1.
“We’ve been going at it all year,” said Wolka, a senior. “It’s been overtime each time. We’re very evenly matched.”
The two big men looked like mirror images, both very big and powerful. With that much weight to handle, neither was about to shoot underneath the other’s frame. That meant a series of head-butting and hand-fighting as they both tried to get upper-body control. It never happened for either.
