VERNON
Five people, including a North Vernon couple and three members of Jennings County Sheriff’s Department, were hurt in a two-vehicle crash Saturday as deputies responded to a pursuit.
Deputy Allen Ritchie, 33, was taken to St. Vincent Hospital in North Vernon and then flown to University Hospital in Louisville, Ky., with injuries to his chest and back, Indiana State Police Trooper Matthew Powell said Sunday.
“Though serious, his injuries were not considered life-threatening,” Sgt. Noel Houze of the Versailles Post added.
A University Hospital spokeswoman said Ritchie was in fair condition Sunday afternoon.
Sylvia Glover, 67, of North Vernon and her husband, John Glover, 70, complained of pain and were treated and released from St. Vincent Hospital.
Reserve deputies John Jayne, 41, and Randy Perdue, 58, suffered minor injuries and both were treated and released from St. Vincent Hospital.
Powell said Jennings County Sheriff’s Department received a report around 8:44 p.m. Saturday that Ritchie was southbound on State Road 7 to assist Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department with a chase.
