5K to benefit literacy programs

The Run for Literacy 5K Run/Walk and Family Health Fair, sponsored by READ Jackson County/Plaza Latina, is set for Friday at Seymour-Jackson Elementary School.

Registration for the 5K is from 5 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., and the race starts at 7 p.m. The entry fee is $25. Complimentary food and drink will be available to all race participants at the finish line.

Medals will be given to the top three overall finishers, male and female, in the run and walk. In the run, awards also will be given to first-place finishers in five age groups.

The health fair will go from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., and it will include a free kids run, face painting and a bouncy house.
