What began as a dream for one Jackson County couple more than three decades ago grew into a business that has since become something they can share with others.

Debbie and Jerry Loper’s story began when they bought a small house with some property to help them realize their dream of living in a log cabin. The couple, however, initially found themselves struggling to provide for their family.

In 1982, the family had nothing to put under their Christmas tree, but Jerry made a wooden plaque to give to his wife. The plaque included a picture of a cabin and the words, “Ours is the gift of love and dreams.”

Now, after 30 years, the Lopers have realized their dream and are sharing their prosperity with others through their bed and breakfast, The Wild Gourd.

“We had very little at first,” Jerry Loper said. “I never thought it would happen.”
