All Thumbs Garden Club members traveled March 13 to Burton’s Maplewood Farms in Medora for the club’s monthly meeting.
Owner Tim Burton served hot tea with the taste of the maple tree sap added. He said they start to tap the trees for the sap in January. Besides the maple trees, they also use the birch trees for sap.
He gave a demonstration about how they drill into the tree to insert the tool and hang the bucket to catch the sap as it drips. The top of the bucket is covered to keep rain from entering, and the cover is called a canopy.
