Lindsay Swindell has played four sports during her high school career at Seymour. But there is no doubt which sport is her favorite.

“I like that soccer is a contact sport. It’s competitive, and it’s a lot of fun,” she said. “My freshman year on the JV, I was a forward and a scorer there. But once I got to the varsity level, I dropped back to defense.”

As a sophomore, Swindell said she played a wing position. She missed her junior year because of an injury; and this fall, she was the stopper for most of the season.

“I like playing defense because I feel like there is a lot of responsibility back there,” she said. “It’s a really important position. Even if you’re not scoring, you’re still a main part of the team.”

She said communication is important on defense.

“At the beginning of the year, the coach told me to be our anchor in the middle there because I was the one that was talking a lot. It came in handy a lot on the field,” she said.

Swindell said she liked marking up an opponent and taking the ball away.

“My job was to be anchor in the middle of the field and stop the ball there,” she said. “You’ve got to be tough. It’s a tough sport. You learned how to play not dirty but aggressive.”

She said she liked playing 11-on-11.
