What a weekend in sectional sports for area high school athletic teams.

On Friday night, the Seymour Owls won their first sectional football game in six years, defeating Evansville Harrison on the road in a hard-fought 65-58 contest. Brownstown Central outlasted Heritage Hills 27-24.

Both squads compete in the second round of sectional play this Friday — the Owls hosting Jasper and the Braves traveling to Salem.

We offer special congratulations and a thumbs-up to coach Jeff Richey, who recently announced this will be his last season at the helm of the Owls. The Owls last won a sectional football game in 2006, defeating South Dearborn, athletic director Brandon Harpe said.
