Area roads slick, but no serious incidents reported

Area roads can be slick and hazardous, but traffic in Jackson County appears to be running smoothly considering the mix of snow and sleet that fell Tuesday night, police report.

Sgt. Noel Houze of the Indiana State Police said no major problems associated with area roads have been reported, including Interstate 65.

"It's just sloppy going," he said. "It's slick and hazardous in spots, but so far we've had no reports of anything serious."

Areas of Interstate 74 northeast of Jackson County are closed, however.

Motorists traveling westbound on I-74 will not be able to drive past the 166-mile marker two  miles east of State Road or Exit 164. Traffic has been stalled at the 166-mile marker because traffic cannot make it up the hill at that location, Houze said. Traffic attempting to bypass the delay by using State Road 46 will find themselves stuck on the hill as well, Houze said.
