Seymour Community Schools trustees will consider a second full-time school resource officer who would focus on Seymour Middle School.
The need to add a second resource officer stems from ongoing talks about school safety in light of the Newtown, Conn., school shooting in December.
Middle school teacher Jenni Hunnicutt said the addition of a full-time resource officer dedicated to the middle school is a great idea.
“Officer (Billy) Smith’s presence in our halls helps some of our students think twice before engaging in some behaviors that otherwise might have occurred,” she said. “We always have our eyes open and work hard to extinguish possible situations of conflict, and Officer Smith’s presence just reinforces these efforts.”
