Armuth laid foundation for Brownstown volleyball

The Brownstown Central High School volleyball team’s first big accomplishment in the 1983 season was beating Austin, Crothersville and Seymour on its home floor to capture the school’s first sectional title in the sport.

Then, the Braves beat Floyd Central and Jeffersonville for the Seymour Regional title.

They moved on to the Jasper Semistate and defeated the host Wildcats and Castle to make their first trip to the state finals, where they fell to Muncie Burris.

Along the way, the Braves beat teams that were considered the favorites. It was John Armuth’s second year as head coach, and he ran a completely different offense.

Apparently, that was a good move.
