Tribune Staff Reports
The Christmas season is fast approaching, and during October the Southern Indiana Center for the Arts is offering several Paint the Town opportunities to make art that can be used for gifts.
The sessions do not require artistic talent or prior experience. SICA teaching artists will guide participants to create a piece of art.
Each of the projects in October will cost $30, and there is a 20 percent discount for art center members. Fees include complete instructions, coaching and all supplies.
Due to limited space, reservations and advance payment is required. All workshops will be at Southern Indiana Center for the Arts.
Two dates in October will be painting pillow cases which, upon completion, will be sealed to protect against rain and snow so that they can be used for outdoor pillows. Participants on Tuesday will paint purple lilacs with a monarch butterfly. The project Oct. 16 will be red geraniums in a pot. On Oct. 23, participants will paint “Snowman Greetings” on a slate shingle.
All three sessions will be from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
The “Snowman Greetings” also will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 27.
This past September’s Paint the Town, “Poppin’ Poppies,” sold out fast, so two more opportunities to paint this picture have been scheduled for Oct. 13 and Oct. 20. The brightly colored poppies will be painted on a 16-by-20 textured canvas with a metallic background. Both sessions are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
To reserve a spot, contact SICA at 812-522-2278 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
The center is at 2001 N. Ewing St. in the Rockford area north of Seymour.
