Marshall University junior setter Sammie Bane, a 2011 graduate of Brownstown Central High School, earned Conference USA Setter of the Week honors for her performances in volleyball matches against East Carolina and Alabama Birmingham, the conference announced Monday.
“We have been getting much more efficient in our system, and Sammie has allowed our system to expand and thrive,” coach Mitch Jacobs said in a story at herdzone.com. “Our team’s attack percentage is a direct reflection of her abilities and the way she’s giving our attackers excellent balls to kill.”
Bane led Marshall to a pair of straight-set victories last weekend. She dished out 81 assists over the two matches with a .415 set percentage. She averaged 13.5 assists per set and led the team to a .249 hitting percentage for the week. She also tallied 18 digs and one kill, including 10 digs in Sunday’s win at UAB.
