In early 2008, Medora resident Bill Drees slipped on ice while walking outside his home and broke his neck.

An unlikely hero — a 5-year-old neighbor girl — came to his rescue.

“I hit my head and was going in and out of consciousness,” Drees said.

“She (Kelsey Turner) kept me covered and warm and calmed down,” the 62-year-old said.
