Jackson County Water Utility has issued a boil water advisory for areas of western and southwest Jackson County and in eastern Lawrence County.
The precautionary alert is in effect for the areas of Clearspring, Norman, Sparksville and the rural area around Medora in Jackson County.
Areas around Zelma, Power Line Road and Back Creek Road in eastern Lawrence County are also affected.
The alert is the result of a water line break Tuesday morning, the Brownstown-based utility reported.
When water service has been restored after outages, customers are warned to boil water vigorously for at least five minutes before using it to prepare food with or to drink.
The advisory will remain in effect until the utility can test water to confirm that bacteria is not present. Testing should be completed within three days.
For information, call the utility at 358-3654.
