The 14-year-old Seymour boy accused of attempting to kill his mother and younger brother by setting their house on fire last week was assigned an attorney.

The youth, who faces two counts of attempted murder and an arson charge, was assigned Brett Hayes of Seymour to represent him during a hearing Tuesday in Jackson Superior Court II.

“That’s about all I can tell you,” Prosecutor Amy Marie Travis said of the hearing.

Hayes could not be reached for comment.

Seymour Police officers took the boy to the Juvenile Detention Center in Brownstown soon after his arrest.
