Boy on bicycle struck by truck

A 10-year-old boy was taken to an Indianapolis hospital Thursday afternoon after he reportedly rode his bike into oncoming traffic in Browns-town and was struck by a motorist.

Police said the driver of the Ford F-150 pickup, Danny Joe Wessel, 58, of Brownstown, was unable to avoid hitting William Fields, also of Brownstown, during the incident, reported at 4:38 p.m., at Front and Spring streets in Ewing on the west side of town.

Fields, who was not wearing a helmet, sustained a broken collarbone, bruising of one of his lungs and a possible collapsed lung, according to a news release from Brownstown Officer Joe Kelly.
