A lightning delay before the start of Tuesday’s Scottsburg Invitational at Hardy Lake didn’t hold back the Brownstown Central cross-country teams.

The girls won the 14-team meet with 57 points, and all seven Braves finished in the top 25. The boys scored 140 points and placed fifth out of 17 teams.

Together, they tallied 197 points and claimed the boys and girls combined trophy.

“It was a good night of racing, even with the lightning delays,” Brownstown girls coach Maria Weigel said. “I was stressed at first, but the girls calmed down, and all ran really well.”

Elisa Gallion paced the girls with a sixth-place finish in 21:58, while Miriah Lasher was 10th in 22:52, Alexis Koch was 11th in 22:58, Kari Brown was 14th in 23:24 and Jacqueline Ollo was 16th in 23:33.
