Braves tennis, Tigers volleyball win matches

Brownstown Central’s boys tennis team claimed second place outright in the Mid-Southern Conference with a 3-2 win on Monday at Austin.

Cole Borden won 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 at No. 2 singles; Skylar Thompson and Skylar Luedeman won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles; and Kent Criminger and William Ollo won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.

The Braves’ No. 1 singles player, Chaz Schneider, returned from an injury and won a first-set tiebreaker, but he lost the next two sets 6-4, 6-3.

Austin only gave up three games at No. 3 singles.

The Braves finished 8-1 in the MSC and 21-4 overall and Wednesday will meet Austin again in the first round of the Seymour Sectional.

Volleyball

Crothersville 3, Henryville 1

Crothersville moved to 3-0 in the Southern Athletic Conference with a four-set win at Henryville.

The host Hornets won the first set 25-15 before the Tigers kicked in gear and won 25-14, 25-21, 25-21.

Chandler Nehrt led in hitting, going 40 for 44 with 19 kills, and Becca Hensley was the top server, going 14 for 14 with two kills.

The Tigers are now 12-6 and Thursday will play host to Medora.
