Brownstown Central’s boys tennis team will have a battle on its hands in Wednesday’s opening round of the Seymour Sectional when it plays Austin.
The two teams met in Monday’s regular-season finale, and Brownstown eked out a 3-2 win to improve to 21-4.
“I didn’t know that we could play with (Austin) to begin with. Now, at least we know we can play with them,” Braves coach Ron Slaton said. “We got them 3-2, and it was hard-fought, and it’s going to be hard-fought again.
“At the beginning of the year, we knew we had a lot to do to catch up with them because they had all those kids coming back plus a new one.”
Slaton, though, thinks his team has come a long way. And the Braves will have Chaz Schneider back at the No. 1 singles position. He won a first-set tiebreaker on Monday before losing the next two games.
