Brownstown Central loses season-opening game

Providence’s baseball team scattered its runs through the first five innings Thursday night in defeating visiting Brownstown Central 7-2.

Zach McCory led Brownstown (0-1) offensively, going 3 for 3 with an RBI, while Noah Killey went 2 for 3. Cole Borden’s double was the Braves’ only extra-base hit.

Mitchell Grider pitched the first four innings for Brownstown, striking out two, walking three and allowing six hits and five runs.
