Brownstown native joins Illinois Frontier League team

Kelley Wagner pitched for Owens Community College in Ohio as a freshman in 2011 and threw for Olney Central College in Illinois in spring 2012.

The 2010 Brownstown Central High School graduate then decided to change directions, venturing into pitching for the Frontier League’s Rockford Aviators in Illinois. The Frontier League is a professional, independent baseball organization with 14 teams throughout the Midwest.

“I’ve had coaches give me encouragement, saying I have some stuff that could take me to the next level,” Wagner said. “I just came back from college baseball, and college itself was just kind of hard because I always have struggled grade-wise. Mom and Dad (Melanie and Craig Wagner) asked me not to give up, and Grandpa (Gary Wagner) as well, because he played and he wants me to continue. They both just said, ‘One more shot, see what you’ve got; and if it happens, it happens. If not, then we’ll go from there.’”
