BROWNSTOWN

Brownstown students like Jenny Runge are the reason Brownstown Christmas Cheer continues to succeed each year.

Runge, an eighth-grade student at Brownstown Middle School, helped raise more than $5,300 over a span of 11 days with other student council members. The money was then used to purchase Christmas gifts that were delivered throughout the Brownstown school district Friday for those in need.

The student-led fundraiser by the Tribal Council, or student council, raised money by selling candy and having hat days, where students are allowed to wear a hat at school if they pay a dollar. The money was then used to buy gifts for 95 children. The presents were handpicked by student council members.
