If the Trinity Lutheran soccer team continues to play with the intensity that it did on Tuesday against New Albany, coach Justin Vorthmann said the Cougars not only can have a winning record, but will be serious challengers in the sectional.
Drew Hirsch scored a goal at the 30-minute mark of the second half to give New Albany a 1-0 win.
“They’re a really good team. They’re a really deep team,” Vorthmann said of the Bulldogs. “We went into this game thinking bend but don’t break and take advantage of the opportunities that we get, and we did that fairly well. (Goalkeeper) Mitch Noelker played out of his mind in the first two-thirds of the game, but unfortunately, he got kicked in the nose. Somebody tried to jump over him, and he got kicked in the bridge of the nose.”
That accident came with 29 minutes left in the match. Noelker had 21 saves up to that point of the match. Mark Bushur replaced Noelker as goalie, and he had eight saves.
