In 2002, Seymour Main Street organized the first Dog Days Dog Show.
The popular event originally was designed to attract people downtown, but when the Humane Society of Jackson County took over sponsorship of the show a year ago, it became more than just an event in which people dress up their dogs and let them strut their stuff.
That’s because the Humane Society added a new category — best rescue dog.
“That’s what we are all about,” Ellen Mirer said of rescuing dogs. Mirer was chairwoman of the year’s dog show and is president of the humane society.
Ray Carder, 53, and Gwen Ellis, 53, were among six pet owners entered in that category this year.
