Catching Fever: State’s hoops season begins on high note

The excitement inside Bankers Life Fieldhouse moments after the big win carried over into the parking garage, where vehicle horns were continuously heard.

On Sunday, the Indiana Fever captured their first WNBA title in the team’s 13-year existence, defeating last year’s champions, the Minnesota Lynx, 87-78.

My brother and I went to the Indianapolis Colts game in the afternoon and saw them beat the Cleveland Browns 17-13, and we thought it only made sense to stick around Indianapolis and catch the Fever game that night, hoping they would claim Game 4 and celebrate the title.

I remember a couple of years ago doing the same thing, going from a Colts game to a Fever playoffs game all in one day. That year, though, they didn’t win the title. This time, they did, and it was neat to be a part of it.
