Candice Sowder, 64, died July 29, 2012, shot and killed at her North Vernon home. Her ex-husband, James Sowder, is accused of killing her.

He is set to stand trial Nov. 12 in Jennings Circuit Court.

James Austin, 32, died June 25, 2013, shot in the abdomen by his girlfriend, Teena Foster, 32, during a domestic dispute in Greene County. Foster was cleared of charges in the case. She acted in self-defense, officials said.

Their names and those of 56 others — Hoosiers who lost their lives in domestic violence disputes from July 2012 through June 2013 — fluttered in the breeze Wednesday afternoon outside Seymour Engine Plant off East Fourth Street.
