A head-on collision forced authorities to close the main road used by workers at several Walesboro-area manufacturers for an hour late Wednesday afternoon.

At 4:28 p.m., two minivans carrying a total of nine people collided in front of Columbus Fire Station 6, located at 1900 W. County Road 450S, Columbus Fire spokesman Capt. Mike Wilson said.

Witnesses told investigators that a westbound Honda Odyssey, driven by Jennifer Berry, 26, of Columbus, veered into the eastbound lane and struck a Ford Windstar, driven by Kathy S. Ruiz, 55, of Seymour.
