Column: Don’t get caught just following man’s rules

Whoever you are and whatever you have done, you have been invited into a relationship with your heavenly Father. That relationship begins right where you are today.

I love the way Romans 2:4 reads in The Living Bible: “Don’t you realize how patient he (God) is being with you? Or don’t you care? Can’t you see that he has been waiting all this time without punishing you, to give you time to turn from your sin? His kindness is meant to lead you to repentance.”

The way some of us were taught, you would have thought it was fear that leads us to repentance. But fear is not a great motivator, at least not for long. Kindness, on the other hand, is a far better motivator. And to experience someone’s kindness you have to be in their proximity. You have to be in some sort of relationship.
