Column: Don’t just attend church, live your faith every day

There are some potential hazards to going to church. The first is thinking God must be pleased just because we show up.

Did you know that it is possible to walk in and out of the doors of the church on Sunday and be no closer in a relationship with God than you would have been if you had stayed home?

A second potential hazard would be about guilt. I have actually met people who equate going to church and feeling guilty with a spiritual experience. How sad. Showing up doesn’t make you a better person. Feeling bad does nothing to improve your relationship with God.
