Column: Prepare family, house for nature’s worst by making emergency kits

The Jackson County Health Department as a partner in emergency preparedness is encouraging local residents to participate in “Be a Force of Nature: Take the Next Step” to be prepared for severe weather.

The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, National Weather Service and the Federal Emergency Management Agency initiative stresses that being a force of nature means taking proactive steps of knowing your risk, being prepared and taking appropriate actions before, during and after extreme weather.

Even more than that, being a force of nature means saving lives by inspiring others to do the same through social media and face-to-face conversations with your friends, family and neighbors.
