Column: Raising awareness, our purpose of pink

The Tribune

Today’s edition of The Tribune and a companion special section appear on pink newsprint, just in case you had not noticed.

There’s a purpose behind that — a Pink Purpose, in fact.

The Pink Purpose is a project of The Tribune and our sister papers at Home News Enterprises to help raise awareness that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and of the dangers of breast cancer — of all cancers, really — and the struggles many of our friends and neighbors, and ourselves, have faced when confronted with this disease.

Breast cancer strikes across economic, racial and ethnic lines, and although the vast majority of its victims are women, it also can threaten the lives of men.

The Pink Purpose also focuses on the treatment of breast cancer, such as those services offered at two of our project sponsors, the Don and Dana Myers Cancer Center at Schneck Medical Center and Columbus Regional Health.
