Column: Schneck's story a model for business excellence

Recently, I had the pleasure of attending part of a two-day seminar at Schneck Medical Center. The seminar was for health care and hospital officials from several states to learn how the hospital worked to achieve the national Baldrige Award for Excellence, the first business of any kind in Indiana to receive the recognition.

I know I have written about this most significant achievement before, but honestly, every time I hear the story of Schneck’s multiyear efforts, I am simply astounded — and proud.

This was a national competition, not just about productivity, profit, efficiency or image, but about synergistic excellence. And excellence for whom? Their customers. That’s you and me as patients, family members, visitors, physicians, nurses and staff. And to a broader degree, our entire community and county.
