Column: Smoking costs more than health



The signs are still very visible and everywhere.

Car windows rolled down slightly even on the coldest of days. Workers huddled together outside restaurants and businesses. People wrapped up and either sitting on the front porch or in their car.

Visible, too, is the trash in the parking lots. Premature deaths are listed in the obituaries. There is mention in newspaper headlines covering public policy and letters to the editor from concerned community members.

People in Jackson County still are using tobacco products.
