Indiana Pacers Danny Granger, George Hill and Paul George teamed with head coach Frank Vogel to purchase 4,000 tickets for Friday night’s WNBA Finals Game 3 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse featuring the Indiana Fever.

Thousands of fans stood in line at the fieldhouse Thursday to collect the free passes.

Obviously, this is a feel-good story, and Granger, Hill, George and Vogel should be commended for their generosity. They wanted the Fever to play before a full house.

But why was the giveaway necessary?
